NESF's homeless services consist of four components:
- Our on-site daytime Drop-In Center provides homeless individuals from the Essex County community the opportunity to shower and wash their clothes. Additionally, there's a clothing pantry that clients can utilize. Food is provided as well as referrals for shelter placement, food pantry assistance, substance abuse treatment and a host of other resources available in the community. Clients are also assisted with obtaining permanent housing and employment.
- Our Youth Services program provides children who are currently in homeless or precariously housed living situations with a respite from their daily lives. During the school year NESF hosts an after-school program for 10-15 children between the ages of 6-15. The program consists of educational, behavioral and recreational components. During the summer those same children are also eligible for inclusion in our summer camp program. Activities are geared toward developing and/or maintaining a child's educational and cultural growth via educational, recreational and cultural enrichment activities that include computer training, tutoring, swimming, movies, visits to historical sites, libraries, museums, amusement parks and other offered attractions.
- In partnership with NJ Transit, NESF Outreach workers strive to connect with and assist those who call Newark Penn Station home.
- NESF hosts a Homeless Task Force comprised of approximetely 65 community social services agencies who meet monthly to advocate on behalf of this population.
